If there is one subject in video games that can be viewed as the most controversial, it’s sexism. Video games haven’t always had the diverse community that they have today and so a lot of them are marketed to primarily cater to the male demographic. Video gaming has always been questionable in its treatment of women, both in the gaming community and in the depiction of women in games themselves. This article will highlight the issue of sexism in gaming which is still at large.
- Duke Nukem Forever
Now this is clearly not marketed to the female audience! Duke Nukem Forever is all about aliens, bombs and guns. And there’s a multi-player mode in the game called Catch the Babe, in which players have to capture women. These women have the potential to become upset when captured, and if they do so the player is required to slap them to calm them down. The makers of this game need to be slapped.
- Grand Theft Auto 5
Oh we’ve all grown up playing this game’s predecessor, but the GTA 5 includes racism, homophobia and sexism! The women in the game are portrayed as spoilt, hapless and who do nothing but spend men’s money and then require their help in getting out of the various difficulties they find themselves in! Worse of all, if the woman doesn’t fit this description, then she’s probably a prostitute. Even though this game has a cult following, the sexism in it is extremely disappointing.
- Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
As you might have guessed from the name, Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad is an unapologetic objectification of women. The main content of the game is to fight and kill zombies as sword-wielding women dressed only in a bikini and underwear, whose personality and character development is equivalent to that of their clothing.
- Dead or Alive: Paradise
There seems to be virtually no purpose to the game apart from women going around doing absolutely nothing apart from being practically or actually naked. The extent of female activity seems to be going shopping for clothes, sunglasses and swimsuits, which you can gift to other women in order to “make friends” with them. Sadly making friends involves having the ability to zoom in on your new friend’s body and to peek into their hotel room at night. Disgusting!
The title of this game says it all! The game centers on a male character who stalks and rapes a mother and her two daughters. The gameplay will not be elaborated on, because it’s right there in the title. What this game does need though, is to be burned into the minds of gamers everywhere as a reminder of how screwed up this gaming industry can be sometimes. A real shame!
The entire point of Bonetown is to have sex with women, but you can’t have sex with the attractive women at first, oh no. You have to have sex with the “fat,” “ugly” and “unattractive” women and as your testicles grow from all of your missions, then you can have sex with the pretty women. The way that this game is, it makes it seem like women are just things to have sex with and help your testicles inflate so you can become more of a man. The creators of this game need to know that there’s a lot more to men than that!
- Ride to Hell: Retribution
Not only is this game the worst game ever created, but it’s also one of the most sexist games we’ve ever seen! Most of the time when you meet the girls in the game, they are about to get raped or are being harassed by some other biker, who you kill right in front of her. She decides to have sex with you right then and there to thank you, with the dead guy still lying on the floor. These women aren’t characters in the game, they are just an occasional break from the combat and vehicle sections, so you can see some pretty ladies getting all hot and bothered over you! Hell to the makers of this game!
The sexism this list holds is very shameful!
People need to know about women power.
Because women, you can do wonders!
